Nearly 150 people signed on for the workout of the day at CrossFit Integrity that was designed to honor the nine lives lost in a mass shooting during a Bible study.
Brian Kost, CrossFit Intensity's owner and head coach, said they did it because they wanted to reach out to the community and help raise money for the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund.
"We're just trying to get athletes and other CrossFit athletes around the community to come in and donate $20 and do the workout," Kost said. "And whatever money is donated for those doing the workout, CrossFit Integrity is going to match."
In the course of nine-minute intervals, the participants did as many sets as they could of six power cleans, 17 wallballs, and 15 burpees to symbolize the date -- June 17, 2015 -- of the shooting.
"We just love to see the community come together to raise the funds," Kost said.
